Sandburg Volleyball Dominates Cougars on Sophomore Night

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team was dominant from start to finish in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 Sophomore Night sweep of Highland on Wednesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (18-10, 4-2) had just seven errors and hit a season-best .351 as a team to pull ahead of the Cougars (16-11, 4-3) for second place in the Arrowhead Conference.

Sophomore Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring) had six of her team-high 11 kills in the third set for Sandburg, and freshman Lauren Erke (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) had 10 kills on 16 error-free attacks for a .625 percentage.

Sophomore Gracie Rademacker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) added seven kills and notched a team-best 16 digs for the Chargers. Libero Jasmin McDaniel (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) picked up 12 digs and had two of Sandburg’s three aces. Setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) handed out 35 assists.

Rademacker had a pair of kills during a 5-0 run to close the first set, including one after she used her leg to dig up a ball. Up 14-11 in the second, the Chargers used a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 20-11. In the third set, sophomore Megan Crome (Marshall, Ill./Marshall) put down three kills as part of a 6-0 run that left Sandburg ahead 23-15.

Prior to the match, the Chargers honored their 11 sophomores playing their final regular season home match: Reeves-Eakins, Rademacker, Baldwin, Crome, Gabrielle Blanchard (South Pekin, Ill./Pekin), Elly Olson (Altona, Ill./Galva), Hattie Hardimon (Assumption, Ill./Central A&M), Anaiah Akwa (Downs, Ill./Tri-Valley), Mackenzie Springsteen (Sperry, Iowa/Mediapolis), Chelsey Catton (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Courtney Hinton (Monmouth, Ill./United).
